Liliana Porter is an Argentine-born visual artist who studied at Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires, and the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. Soon after her move to New York in 1964, Porter formed an organization of artists with fellow artists Luis Camnitzer, Julian Firestone, Jose Guillermo Castillo, and Sharon Arnt and named this group The New York Graphic Workshop.

Liliana Porter plays privately as well, breaking and distorting her toys in paintings and Polaroids to create fanciful and troubling portraiture from dolls and domestic objects. From a porcelain bride with its head snapped off to a canvas of a tiger with a growling soundpiece, the artist has a flair for off-beat humour and wry commentary.
